My Top 6 *Fancy* Fall Pieces

Oh...Fall.  I have been thinking about you lately and all of the things I want to wear.  2012 is definitely full of some *fancy* trends... like the color oxblood, metallic, baroque patterns, polka dots, and modern basics. (Don't you just love the word "oxblood" by the way...sounds so dangerous but so chic!).

In keeping with fall here are my top 6 *fancy* fall pieces.

1. A very cute moto-jacket in oxblood that would literally go with every single thing in my closet.
2. Peplum tops are ingenious.  I've always been "hippy" so the cute little flare will help camouflage my problem area without sacrificing style.
3. Baroque and metallic are paired perfectly in this pencil skirt that I would wear on New Year's Eve.

1. I am obsessed with booties and the fact that these have sequins pretty much makes this a done deal.
2. Leather like leggings....need I say more?
3.  I love polka dots and would pear this dress with tights and boots, leggings and flats, or pretty heels for a night out.

What are your top *fancy* fall pieces?

Cable Deck Railing

This is the back of our house and you see those 2 middle decks, lower and upper?  Well, they are gone!  So is the deck on the lower left side.

Our poor little house was uncared for so long that the wood had become rotten, paint was chipped, and pieces were falling apart.  So we are giving Blue Shore a much needed face lift!

Plans and development are starting to be thought of and my husband and I are really focusing in on trying to preserve our view as much as possible.  I mean who wouldn't want to look out at and see this everyday?!

So we thought cable railing would do the trick nicely and *fancy* Blue Shore up a bit.  Cable railing is safe, easy to upkeep, and still lends itself to a pretty view.  The proof are in these *fancy* photos below:

A wonderful outdoor dining space flanked by a beautiful deck.

An up close look at how the cable railing doesn't restrict the water views.

I also like the look of what I call "chicken wire" cable.  A bit more dense and maybe a bit more practical.  Especially with a 2 year old running around who thinks throwing things off ledges is super cool.

What is there not to love?  A stunning view right outside your door!

*Fancy* Friday

It's August and summer is just a few short weeks away from being over (tear falling down my face).  Of course, we've got a jam packed schedule this month but I plan to savor every last moment of warm weather, beaches, boating, etc.

So as summer winds down here are a few things that have been putting some *fancy* into my day....

This picture of the moon does not do justice to how beautiful and big it was over the bay.

My mother-in-law gave me a beautiful matching mirror and brush that we think dates back to the 1920's.  If you look closely enough you can see a "B" etched into it for our last name.  I was the 4th generation to receive and someday I'll pass along to my daughter.

I had a break up this week....with stress

Tonight is Friday Night Live Street Sales.  Downtown streets are shut down and all the shops filter outside onto the streets to sale their wares at super good prices.

Watermelon Feta Basil
Who knew combining watermelon, basil, and feta would be so good?  The link tells you to make finger appetizers but I made mine into a salad and it was super delicious.

ZANY Consignment Boutique
I've loved this shop forever but have stopped there twice in the last month to pick up super cute in-expensive clothes...like a pair of Paige Premium denim jeans for only $8!

Traverse City Film Festival
And of course, town is all abuzz with the film festival going on.  Unfortunately I am not going to see any movies but will be walking around downtown for some celebrity sightings...like Susan Sarandon who was here to help open the festival and show her new movie!

See you Monday and have a *fancy* weekend!

*Fancy* Friday

I have been so busy the last few weeks that my poor little blog has not gotten attention.  Hopefully life will be somewhat back to normal starting today.  So while I play catch up (like a serious grocery shopping trip I have planned today) here is what has been putting some *fancy* into my life the last few weeks....

My sister took this picture of my baby in action....I love this, it seriously makes me smile.

Rebel Pendant Necklace
I just purchased this Stella & Dot Rebel Pendant Necklace and am anxiously waiting for it's arrival.  I can see myself literally wearing this with every outfit.

Isabel Marant
Is it too early to start thinking about Fall?  I don't think so because I am seriously coveting these Isabel Marant Dicker Suede Boots at Net-a-Porter.  Too bad they are $565!

The Olympics start today!  I am very excited to watch Michael Phelps, beach volleyball, gymnastics, and trampoline...yes, trampoline is an actual sport this year!  Check out this link for all the details and a full schedule of events: http://www.london2012.com/.  What will you be watching?

*Fancy* Friday

It's been one of those weeks where I completely got caught up in the grind of day to day stress, ending up with a horrible migraine the last few days.  Thankfully today is Friday.  So in honor of the long week ending and the weekend starting I am going to start a new series called *Fancy* Friday.  Every week I'll be sharing some pictures, thoughts, etc. that I found throughout the week that brought a little *fancy* to an otherwise crazy week.  I hope they bring you some *fancy* too.

My sister's wedding pictures are finally here and I absolutely love this shot of my daughter!  SHE is truly my precious angel.

In love with everything about this picture...big jewels, sequined clutch, and casual but girly outfit.

DIY Candle Sticks Styled

Earlier this week I posted some pictures of a weekend DIY project (seen here).  They finally dried and here is how I styled them:

I'm not 100% sure I am super pleased with the candles.  I think they look unsubstantial and I need something a little more *fancy*.  What do you think?

My thought is to find some seashells and attaching them on top instead.  More of a structural piece of artwork instead of a candle holder.  These options I found at Etsy store seashells11035 might work out well.

Natural Sea Fan 12.5" x15" Red Seashells Reef Coral

Can you envision it in your head?  Thoughts?
